In August of 2006, on the final night of Rock School, four best friends took the stage for the first time ever as The Broken Heart Brigade. They had done well in rehearsals, but this was the real deal. Everyone they knew was there. While Brandi already had live experience, this was the first time ever for the three guys. Their nerves were running high as they hit the stage.
“The first couple of minutes were very shaky,” Ozzie admits. “Because we were nervous, we were rushing and we weren’t in sync.”
This was understandable, but the four of them managed to regain their footing. By the time they began their second song, Ozzie’s voice became strong and confident. All of a sudden, the band was in a zone. Loosening up considerably, Zach and Isaac started jumping around and having a good time.
By the end of their set, which included Green Day’s “Holiday,” and The Pink Spiders’ “Little Razorblade,” the crowd was on its feet. It was clear that The Broken Heart Brigade was a hit. As Ozzie, Zach, Brandi, and Isaac walked off the stage, fans rushed at them asking for autographs, snapping pictures, and congratulating them.
“It was insane,” Isaac says, shaking his head. “Here we were, having just played for the first time ever, and people were treating us like rock stars. We didn’t know what to think. The one thing we knew for sure was that it was a bigger rush than anything we had ever experienced before.”
